Common Questions
Is QuickStave free?
Yes. Writing, editing, scanning, playing back, and printing music are free forever, with no trial clock and no page limits. You only pay when you want a file to leave QuickStave — MusicXML, MIDI, or audio export, and watermark-free PDF.
Is sheet music scanning (OMR) free?
Yes, and there is no per-page charge or scan limit. Optical Music Recognition runs entirely on your own device in the browser, so scanning costs us nothing and is free for everyone. You can scan, correct the result, hear it played back, and print it without paying.
Do I need an account to use QuickStave?
No. You can open QuickStave and start writing or scanning music immediately, with no sign-up and no email address. An account is only needed to sync scores across devices, share or publish them, or buy Pro.
Do I need to install anything?
No. QuickStave runs in any modern web browser with nothing to download. You can optionally install it as a PWA for offline use, but that is a convenience, not a requirement.
Does QuickStave work on Android, iPhone, iPad, Chromebook, Mac and Windows?
Yes — all of them. QuickStave is a web application, so it runs on Android and iOS phones and tablets, iPads, Chromebooks, Mac, Windows and Linux, in any modern browser. There is no separate app to install on any platform.
Is this a free trial, or actually free?
Actually free, with no expiry. The free tier is not a time-limited trial and it is not a crippled demo — every notation feature, unlimited staves, unlimited scores, and real-time collaboration are all included at no cost, permanently.
Can I try Pro features before paying?
The full editor, playback, scanning, and import are free with no time limit. You only need Pro when you want to export. There is nothing to trial — the creative tools are already yours.
Is real-time collaboration free?
Yes. Inviting others to co-edit a score with you carries no Pro gate — it is available on every plan, including Free.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes. Cancel from your account settings at any time. You will keep Pro features until the end of your billing period, and export stays available for a further 30 days so you can take copies of your work. Your scores are always accessible, even on the Free plan.
What's the Lifetime option?
Pay $99 once and keep Pro for as long as QuickStave runs — no recurring charges, and all current and future Pro features included. "Lifetime" means the lifetime of the service, not a personal guarantee: if we ever discontinue QuickStave, the service and export keep running for at least 12 months after the announcement, and lifetime purchases made in the 12 months before it are refunded.
How does Team pricing work?
Teams are $40/seat/year with a minimum of 5 seats. Team admins manage billing, invite members via shareable links, and can adjust seat count at any time. Each member gets full Pro features.
What happens to my scores if I downgrade?
They stay yours. You can view, edit, play and print them on the Free plan, and nothing is deleted. Two things do change: export continues for 30 days and then needs Pro again, and because publishing to the public gallery is a Pro feature, any scores you had set to Public become Private. Unlisted scores are not affected — unlisted sharing is part of the free plan, so links you have already given people keep working.
