Using the sustain pedal

Sustain-pedal marking is a spanner with three notation styles — text (Ped. / *), bracket, or both together.

Using the sustain pedal

A sustain-pedal marking is a spanner, stretching across the passage the pedal is held down for — see Creating spanners for the shared mechanic (a range already selected applies it immediately, end to end; a single note lets you pick the end point).

Choosing a style

F7 P opens the style submenu:

  • 1 — traditional text notation (Ped.*).
  • 2 — a bracket that steps down at the release point.
  • 3 — text and bracket combined.

Tips

  • Pick whichever style matches the rest of your score’s engraving convention — all three represent the same pedal action, just drawn differently.
